Tony “Honky” Hussein Hinde

Tony Hussein-Hinde is
and always will be regarded as the godfather of surfing in the Maldives. He was
a great husband, father and visionary. Articulate and
witty, he often acted as a mentor and counsellor, and was an accomplished surfer
as well as a surfing purist.
Tony gave us
his friendship, the friendship of another culture and the opportunity, while
sharing waves, to share our knowledge and skills for a wider good. Tony
discovered and preserved a paradise where we could convene and enjoy the
true spirit of surfing. Going to his surf camp was to escape the stresses
of our normal lives and to share an experience of nature and community that has
blown our minds. Tony looked forward to the SMA conference each year and
always made sure that he was on the island when we had a conference. He has
created the sorts of memories that will sustain us to the day we die. For
this we will never forget our dear friend
Tony.
